The department

Our Commercial Property Team is Legal 500 ranked (in the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex Region) with our Head of Department, James Cottrell, Managing Partner, Dermot Carey and Partner James Khakpour-Smith recognised for their specialist expertise.  We advise business owners, corporates and individuals on commercial property acquisitions and sales including development sites, leasesehold work, Landlord and Tenant matters and refinancing. 

About the role

We are pleased to offer this opportunity for a Solicitor to join our reputable Commercial Property Team.  The role may be based in St Albans or Luton.

Working closely with a Partner, as may be necessary, the successful candidate will provide legal advice and solutions on commercial property matters including freehold and leasehold acquisitions and disposals, financing and refinancing, acting for Landlords granting leases, development and occasional corporate support work as well as acting for Tenants taking leases and leasehold management work (e.g. Licences to Assign, Deeds of Variation).  Experience in the area of leasehold enfranchisement, financing and development would be an advantage.  This role requires working to tight deadlines to meet completion and other fixed deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sound technical drafting of sale contracts, transfers, overage and options, licences, notices and agreements for leases and associated complex completion statements and relevant calculations.
  • With supervision, as may be necessary and with increased experience develop efficient systems to manage a busy caseload involving diarising to ensure key deadlines are met whilst also keeping the supervisor fully appraised on matters.
  • Keeping up-to-date electronic client files and working 'paperlight'.
  • Maintaining accurate and full live matter related time records.
  • Developing and protecting relationships with clients whilst also increasing professional credibility when dealing with existing clients to encourage new business.
Other information
  • Qualified Solicitor ideally 3-7 years PQE.
  • Excellent organisational skills – robust time management and prioritisation skills.
